"I really like jewelry that isn't only purely aesthetic, jewelry that incorporates useful objects and that has a function. We have a piece with a mirror attached, so you can apply your make-up with it; we have an eyeglass pendant that can help you read a menu in a restaurant; and lately we've done these little bells that ring. During the recession I thought, 'Everyone's depressed, but what would make people feel good?' So I started making meditation bells to cheer people up because I have a good friend who's a Zen Buddhist, and we discussed the idea together - I made a few bells and they suddenly became very popular. The things I like most are those that have more than one use. We have to keep changing and developing, because that's what keeps everything interesting and unique."
